About Steve Mackenzie & real world riding

RWR brings together over 20 years experience working in the outdoors, with 15 of these specifically working with mountain biking activity for personal development, during which time I ran a non-residential outdoor education unit based in Glasgow.

I currently operate Real World Riding running guided trips and coaching adult and young riders, and supporting organisations operating Mountain Biking and off road cycling. I manage a youthwork award (www.mslfla.org) for The Outward Bound Trust (I also sit on the Trust's Risk Management Committee). I Lecture at The University of the Highlands and Islands in Safe Practice in the Outdoors, and I also freelance for Cycling Scotland.

My relationship with the client is a key part of the work of RWR whether they be a teenager getting into enduro, a teacher setting up riding in their school, or an outdoor provider wishing to extend their range of activity.

Biking is the main focus for my work, and I hold a PGCE in Outdoor Activities, a Certificate in Youthwork Practice, and APIOL. I have various business and management awards, Level 3 Canoe and Sea Kayak coach, and Mountain Instructor's Award. My wealth of experience in these environments  comes in surprisingly useful when biking - wading through rivers or scrambling through crags, or navigating off mountains in the mist!
